Well America, this time we’ve truly been blown off course by an Electoral College not representative of the will of the people. 1.3 million more votes (and rising) were cast for Hillary Clinton, yet we got Trump. The last time this happened was when the Electoral College, aided and abetted by a Republic dominated U.S Supreme Court, catapulted George Bush into the White House. That decision brought us endless war and the 2008 Economic Crisis. We’ve never fully recovered from either.

This time, it may be worse. The Electoral College has let the foxes into the hen house. The Republican majority is poised to privatize everything they can- think Medicare and Social Security. We’ll get near worthless  vouchers while the corporations and their fat cat CEOs get fatter. Wave bye, bye to the little that’s left of the New Deal that created the great American middle class. And, if that weren’t sufficient, Trump’s sticky fingered “children” are set to swoop in to raid the national hen house along with the uber rich who (are you ready for this?) will get a windfall in a new round of tax breaks. Not satisfied with this, Trump promises to the end the regulations needed to prevent those rapacious Wall Street bankers who drove us into the 2008 economic ditch from doing it again . Fasten your seat belts. It’s going to be a rough ride.

No, I will not move. I will not go to Canada or Australia. I will not be pushed out by the Alt-Right’s attempt to take over this country, my country, our country. Let’s unite across the myriad of groups that comprise Americans of good will, stand together and fight for our country. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by almost two million votes. The majority of Americans were not for Trump. As we move forward, let’s remember these words often quoted and first spoken by John Winthrop in 1630 as the Arabella was about to land in what would become Boston: “We shall be as a city upon a hill, the eyes of all people are upon us.”

The eyes of the world are upon us. They wait to see if we live up to the intrinsic promise of America or fall into decay and disarray.

Trump’s first official tweet as president-elect demonstrated  his utter contempt for the First Amendment: “Just had a very open and successful presidential election. Now professional protesters, incited by the media, are protesting. Very unfair!” In Trumpville “unfairness” trumps the First Amendment every time.

Twenty-four hours later, most likely after much cajoling from his handlers, Trump tweeted: “Love the fact that the small groups of protesters last night have passion for our great country. We will all come together and be proud!”

Don’t be fooled. Just look at the rouges’ gallery he is eyeing for the “men” (yes, men) who will soon be, as he tweeted, “…. running our government.” Names like: “build the wall,” Senator Jeff Session,  “All men cheat on their wives,”  Rudy (the Vampire) Giuliani , and  the Trump campaign’s CEO and former editor of the alt-right Breitbart news and opinion website, Steve Bannon. All are illustrative of the type of “men” who will soon being “running our government.”

Over and over again Trump has laid his cards on the table for all to see. Don’t be fooled by any sleight of hand, or in Trump’s case, twitter. This is nothing more than three- card monte and the marks are the American people.
